The wagon engine produces standard 151kw, the ute produces 120kw. I confirmed with DP Chip that it would be OK. I had a 79 series 4.2 Cruiser ute engine that I fitted a second hand 100 series wagon 4.2 chip to. Your resistor analogy is pretty right though. With the remap I do also get a boost increase, not to mention shutting off the EGR and the stupid brake pedal boost cut. This device also acts as a code reader and resetter and only costs $900. That is why I have never thought them to be worth the 4 digit price tags many were and still are charging.įor argument sake a DP Chip for my Jeep and no doubt the Challenger is well over a grand yet I have a hand held tuning device for my Jeep that plugs into the ECU, you download the original map send it back they load a performance map and save a copy of your original tune (which is also saved in the device), send it back to you, you load it through the OBD port and away you go. DP Chip never used too.Īs long as they have tested the increases across a wide range of power scenarios there is no reason for them not to be reliable but they can only be as effective within the constraints of the original system. I haven't heard of any that that tap into the boost signal but maybe some of the better ones do. Otherwise the ECU will sense overboost and act accordingly. the byproduct of burning more fuel could allow more boost at earlier revs but I don't think many actually increase max boost unless they are fooling the boost signal as well. Some modify the signals going to the ECU others modify the signals out of the ECU but they pretty much do the same thing in the end The better ones hopefully have tested to ensure the changes are still within fairly safe parameters. They operate quite differently.Īll these "chips" that are not full ECU remaps are indeed fancy resistors or signal modifiers. Not to be rude but your theories sound to be coming more from petrol tuning background rather than diesel. Running lean in a diesel is not an issue (unless really excessive) running too rich is what causes high EGT's and possible damage.
